Coming to a new race at this point of the season is never going to be easy, but the very unique challenges of Mexico compound the challenge.
The high altitude is not something we have encountered since the last visit to Mexico City and there really isn’t anything like it on the calendar. Sao Paulo was considered ‘high altitude’ but this is three times higher! The most obvious impact is on the turbo, which will be pushed beyond its normal operating limits. Then the long straight will test the ICE, particularly with the high speeds we will see. Add in the slow corners and the strain for the MGU-K and you’ve got one of the toughest events so far for the new generation of power units.
Despite the obvious points, we are looking forward to the Mexican race. The last couple of races have seen a good upturn in performance, particularly in the last race in Austin where Red Bull fought for the lead. With reliability also at a stable level we are in a good place and confident of making good the potential we have shown in the second part of the year.

Once selected by Renault Sport F1 and homologated by the FIA each fuel formulation developed by the Total Research Centre (CReS) in Solaize, near Lyon, is put into production by Givors-based Total ACS in volumes ranging between 20-200 m3. After being numbered and sealed in 50 to 200 litre containers, the fuel is sent onto the Grand Prix. Despite multiple restrictions including security, customs and trade regulations that vary from country to country, Total ACS logistics personnel work in perfect harmony, ensuring the approved composition of each formula is delivered to the paddock on time.
