Nicolas Milan made a full-time return to the Clio Cup France this year, having already won four titles in the category. It proved to be a winning return, as the driver-preparation engineer showed he was still hungry for success as he claimed a record-breaking fifth title!
After making his debut in the FFSA French Supertourism Championship in 1999, Nicolas Milan quickly turned his attention to one-make cups with considerable success in both France and elsewhere in Europe. Over the years, the experienced Frenchman has racked up trophies and prizes, which led him to set up his own outfit, becoming a driver-team principal.
In 2007, Nicolas Milan decided to enter the Clio Cup. After spending the first year getting to know the car and category, he missed out on the title to Maxime Martin on a countback of the number of second-place finishes. He was determined to fight back the following year, and that is precisely what he did. Things then really picked up. No driver had won more than two titles in France since 1966… Nicolas Milan scored a hat-trick of titles between 2009 and 2011 – the year in which he also win the Eurocup Clio!
After winning in Spain in 2013, he returned to the Clio Cup France a year later to grab his fourth title. Having limited his involvement last year to supporting his longstanding right-hand man Marc Guillot, he decided to go for a fifth title in 2018.
Winner of a race at each of the opening four rounds of the season, Nicolas produced a sensational performance in winning the second race in Valencia, less than twenty-four hours after having come close to winning the Alpine Elf Europa Cup at the Nürburgring!
After his form dipped slightly in Magny-Cours, Nicolas Milan headed into the final round at the Circuit Paul Ricard ten points behind Benoît Castagné. Focused and calm throughout, he overtook his rival twice on track to claim the title by just six points.
As quick-witted and efficient behind the wheel as he is in front of a microphone, Nicolas Milan showed that he was still capable of adding a few more lines to what is already a very long CV!
