Renault Sport Academy Driver Jack Aitken is to test a Formula 1 car for the first time on Wednesday in Jerez when he gets behind the wheel of the 2012 spec Renault V8 powered E20.

Jack, who sits second in the standings of the GP3 Series, will be in the cockpit on Wednesday with Renault Sport Formula One Team Third and Reserve Driver Sergey Sirotkin in the seat on Tuesday around the 4.428km circuit in southern Spain.

The E20 was driven by Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean in 2012 giving the Lotus F1 Team ten podiums including a victory for Räikkönen in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The GP3 Series returns after a one-month break on the 6th October in Jerez where Jack has set his sights on chasing down team-mate and championship leader, George Russell, who leads by 43 points.

Jack Aitken:
“I’m hugely grateful to Renault Sport and the Academy for giving me this opportunity, my first taste of F1 machinery! I know Jerez from racing there in Formula Renault so I’m looking forward to getting comfortable in the E20 and really having some fun. I’m going to go and enjoy it, hopefully I can repay Renault by doing a good job.”
