Renault’s all-conquering Mégane R.S. Trophy-R has picked up another award, being named sports car of the year by prestigious French motoring magazine L’Argus.
The company’s hottest-ever hatch won the award on January 14 with judges citing the car’s record-breaking exploits in 2019 – when it broke four lap records at four different international circuits – as a key factor in their decision. The Mégane R.S. Trophy-R has seen Renault Sport engineers push their expertise to new levels by transferring their knowledge from the track to the road, the judges said.
The award is the second for the limited-edition, top-of-the-range R.S. Trophy-R which was also named Performance Car of the Year by the UK’s Top Gear magazine, a spin-off of the famous BBC TV show. This also followed its four 2019 lap records at Germany’s Nürburgring, Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps, Japan’s Suzuka and Australia’s The Bend.
The Trophy-R award was part of a hat trick for the Renault group in the annual L’Argus ceremony. The Renault Captur won the prize for Small SUV, while the new Renault Master topped the Commercial Vehicle Trophy for the third time, a first in the history of the awards.
This year’s awards were the 27th in the history of the bi-montly L’Argus – one of France’s best-selling motoring magazines.
